About ROYA رؤیا

Sara Farzoughi is a London-born abstract artist who works under the name Roya (رؤیا), her Persian middle name meaning “dream.” The name reflects both her heritage and the essence of her work. From an early age, painting became a way for Sara to escape into a dreamlike world filled with colour, movement, and texture, where emotion and imagination take form on the canvas..

Coming from a family with a strong artistic lineage, Sara’s creative path began early in life. Growing up surrounded by creativity, she developed an early fascination with Impressionism and Abstract art, particularly the way these styles capture mood, atmosphere, and an individual’s unique perspective of the world. At the age of six, Sara received her first watercolour set from her mother — a meaningful heirloom originally passed down from her grandfather, who authored a book about the artist-travellers “The Daniells.” This moment marked the beginning of her lifelong relationship with painting.

Colour has always been central to Sara’s artistic language. Her palettes are deeply inspired by lived experiences — from landscapes encountered through travel to architecture, interiors, nature, flowers, and fashion. These influences come together to create vibrant compositions often infused with a subtle tropical energy and a sense of life and movement.

Working with mixed media, Sara builds richly layered paintings using oils, acrylics, spray paint, and pastels. Her process is intuitive and expressive, using fluid gestures and bold markings that bring a sense of energy, depth, and movement to her work.
